At the Ormskirk Code Club, formerly the Quantum Code Club, believe that all young people should have the opportunity to experience and experiment with technology; that includes building electronic circuits, programming computers and building web sites. We are affiliated to the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s national Code Club, along with hundreds of schools and other independent groups in the UK and are one of over 13,000 such clubs in over 160 countries. With the resources and support of Code Club we enable young people (aged 9-16) to build and share their ideas, learning new skills along the way.

Have fun with technology

Whilst some technology subjects are taught at school, we understand that schools don’t have the time or the resources to enable young folk to experiment with technology in the way that suits them best – each young person is different. It is experimentation that reinforces learning and stimulates genuine interest, so the Ormskirk Code Club aims to complement what is taught at school and give young people that time to play, experiment and have fun with technology.

At the Ormskirk Code Club young people are able to follow easy step-by-step guides to learn how to code using languages like Scratch, HTML, CSS, Python and C++ to make games, animations, websites and control electronic circuits that they have built. The projects are specifically designed to introduce coding concepts to allow young people to build their knowledge incrementally.

Supported by experts

All of this is backed up by our team of volunteers who are experts in their field. We have professional web designers, electronic engineers, radio communications engineers and programmers.

We have a high volunteer to member ratio that ensures our young members to develop their skills at their own pace.

Code Club – Skills for life

The skills that the Ormskirk Code Club nurtures are skills for life and will help those that attend to go on to further education and forge a career in computing, electronics, or engineering.

Register to join the Ormskirk Code Club now

We do not charge a membership fee to join our Code Club, though we do charge subs on a term-by-term basis. This helps us to pay for the great venue we meet at. So all you have to do is register and bring your young family members along to have fun with code, electronics, computing and web design.

Local venue

We meet at the WI Hut, on Town Green Lane, in Aughton.

Disabilities/Learning Requirements

We are happy to enrol members with disabilities and/or learning difficulties.

The venue does have disabled access via a ramp. However, there are no separate disabled toilet facilities. We would ask parents to assess the facilities to ensure that they are suitable for their children before committing to paying their child’s subs.

Parents accompanying their children

We ask that a parent is present with their child during each session.

Please understand that our volunteers are not professional educators, they are enthusiastic technologists who want to help young folk learn more about technology. Your attendance at the sessions will help your child get the best out of the sessions.

Safeguarding

All of our volunteers have undergone, and successfully completed, a safeguarding course and have had a criminal record check performed. Re-training and the criminal record checks are performed as requested by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, but at no more than three yearly intervals, as currently required by law.
