Technology is all around us; at home, in work, on the top of a hill, diving deep in the ocean. It keeps us alive, makes our lives easier, gets us from A to B, and enables us to achieve things that would normally be very difficult, if not impossible. Technology is becoming more deeply intwined with our lives as each year goes by – as a result we will be ever more dependent on technology.
A new technical revolution
To get ahead in the future, our youngsters need to be ahead of the game. They need to have a good grounding in technology as they are catapulted from their formative educational years in to their careers; regardless of which field they choose that to be in. It is more important than ever that there are groups, like the Ormskirk Code Club, that will help them to lay down a solid foundation in technology, on to which they can scaffold and expand their knowledge and experience.
The Ormskirk’s Code Club’s volunteers all have a strong background in technology and either currently still employed at the cutting edge of various technical fields, or have retired but still have a strong desire to pass on their passion for technology.
A different way of learning from school
Either way, it is our desire that the young members of the Ormskirk Code Club learn the basics of coding and electronics at their own pace, with our support. They will be challenged to take those basics and enhance their knowledge and understanding by experimenting with the code and circuitry to solve problems, expand their abilities and develop new ideas.

Our sessions are not run like a school classroom. Everyone is encouraged to learn at their own pace – supported by a volunteer who is on hand to explain, demonstrate and encourage. We have a high volunteer to member ration that should see no volunteer supporting more than two members. This will ensure that they will get maximum benefit from the timer they spend with us.
Between sessions, members will be given extension tasks to complete that will reinforce their learning to-date. This also gives them the opportunity to showcase their newly obtained skills to family and friends at home.
A technical foundation to build on
It is our sincere hope that we will have enthused our members that technology is exciting, engaging and contagious.
Many of our volunteers are still developing and inventing. They, themselves, are members of our sister organisation the Quantum Technology Club. For the last two years Quantum has been the centrepiece at the Liverpool Makefest and spent much of last year developing a light dome that was revealed at this year’s event and amazed many.

Some of the Ormskirk Code Club’s older and more experienced members will be working with our volunteers on the centrepiece for Liverpool Makefest 2024. This type of experience will the amazing for them as they’re going to be working on a live project and the fruits of their labour will be seen by hundreds of people, old and young, who are also interested in technology.
