Electronics is a branch of engineering that enables people to take small components that, in themselves, are useless and design and construct circuits that can do amazing things. Electronic circuits perform everything from flashing an LED on and off to fool thieves into thinking your car has an alarm fitted, to making millions and millions of calculations and decisions to automate some of the most complex tasks known to man.
Electronics have transformed our lives in every way with everything from labour-saving devices, to devices that can keep our hearts beating and lungs breathing. Recent (-ish) developments have seen the miniaturisation of electronic circuits so that we can fit whole computers on a device smaller than a quarter of a thumbnail.
During the 2023-24 Ormskirk Code Club sessions we will be using electronics modules, each containing circuits within them, and wiring them up to an Arduino. Theses will then have applications uploaded to them, coded in C, to control those circuits; either making something happen, or reading data from sensors.
Electronics is a vast field and the majority of all industry utilises it in their products. The foundation skills developed at the Ormskirk Code Club can spark an interest in young folks that can last a lifetime, either as a hobby, or as a very lucrative career.
